Disguised as a man, Dugu Banruo bravely fought on the frontier. Tragically, her twin sister, the empress in the palace, was tortured to death by the emperor. Banruo rushed back to the capital overnight, took her sister’s place, and staged the empress’s miraculous resurrection. She waged a covert battle of wits against the emperor and Noble Consort Xian in the harem. After gathering solid evidence, she brought the culprits to justice and avenged her sister.
