Carmen, a war correspondent, lost her recording pen during a shelling in Aleppo. Inside it was the crucial testimony of a burned girl regarding war crimes involving white phosphorus. To retrieve the evidence before it could be traded or destroyed by journalists, brokers, and armed factions, she crossed checkpoint after checkpoint, tracked down a betraying colleague, negotiated with an armed commander, and survived a deadly trap. In the end, she made that voice heard around the world—and it became the key evidence that secured a conviction at the War Crimes Tribunal.
