Cinderella Chloe's Mother married Lucas's father, the wealthiest family in New York. Lucas, as the heir, deliberately flirts with Chloe, hoping she'll fall in love with him so he can dump her, as revenge for his father bringing Chloe and her mother home at his mother's funeral.
