Back in the 1970s and 80s, top student Su Wanqing marries into the Chen family to repay her mother’s kindness. For ten years, she is exploited by her in-laws and betrayed by her husband. She resolutely divorces. Drawing on her long-held professional knowledge, she joins a state-owned factory, rising from consultant to deputy technical director and leading the factory through transformation. Meanwhile, the Chens collapse due to illegal stockpiling, corruption and fraud, and her ex-husband lands in jail. Su Wanqing proves with her strength that a wasted half-life can be reclaimed by herself.
